In the final game of the day at the Gonzaga DC Classic Basketball Tournament, Roman Catholic High School of Philadelphia defeated Our Lady of Good Counsel from Olney Maryland by a final score of 72-60. That win puts Roman in the championship game Sunday evening at 6:45 versus host Gonzaga. The championship will be played at Bender Arena on the campus of American University in Washington, DC.
Roman built on its lead slowly, quarter-by-quarter, in-front by three after the first quarter, four at halftime, 10 after the third quarter and eventually winning by 12. The reigning Gonzaga DC Classic champion is led by three seniors, all committed to play at Penn State University: Tony Carr (last year’s DC Classic MVP), Nazeer Bostick and Lamar Stevens.
In Saturday’s semi-final, Stevens led Roman’s attack with 21 points; Carr had 13 and Bostick had 12. Junior Dakquan Davis finished with 10 points.
Junior Cam Norman (5’10”) led all scorers with 23 points for the Good Counsel Falcons. Sophomore Tyler Baylor had 10 points.
Roman will be seeking to repeat as Gonzaga DC Classic champions on Sunday night.
