Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School is located in Washington DC
Theodore Roosevelt SHS, home of the Rough Riders, was established in 1928 in the Petworth neighborhood of Washington, DC. Its gym floors and classrooms have produced some of Washington’s most iconic figures including, Ted Lerner, Red Auerbach and Abe Polin. The school’s storied academic and athletic history has only been bolstered under the tenure of head basketball coach Rob Nickens. Under his leadership, the Rough Riders have won three DCIAA championships and one DCSAA championship. Perhaps the most impressive accomplishment has been the number of students who earn scholarships to play basketball at the post secondary level. Coach Nickens and his staff have sent over two dozen students on full ride scholarships including the 2014 Washington DC Gatorade player of the year Johnnie Shuler to LaSalle University. The Rough Riders look to defend their championships this season and will be relying on Senior’s Anthony Whitney, Meghale Ford, and D’Vonte Kay to lead the charge.
