Great Basketball Supporting Good Works

The Gonzaga Fathers' Club and the 2008 Tournament Committee welcome you to the 20th annual Gonzaga DC Classic Basketball Tournament. On December 12, 13 and 14 we have another great weekend of high school basketball planned for you with some of the finest teams in the nation.

Basketball is a great sport, and the Gonzaga Fathers’ Club believes it also can be a means to promote the Jesuit ideal of being "Men for Others."  The tournament was created by the Fathers’ Club to support the goals of good basketball, friendship among teams and players, and community service.

Gonzaga students learn to serve others through projects near home, such as tutoring inner city children, counseling in city summer day camps, and helping at the McKenna Center for the homeless on Gonzaga’s campus, as well as projects far from Washington, such as working in the Dominican Republic with poor Dominicans and Haitian refugees on basic health and sanitation needs, weekend projects in Appalachia, and work study projects and cultural exchange at Red Cloud Indian School in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. It is to programs like these and other needs of the Gonzaga community that we pledge the proceeds of our tournament.
