Be a Man for Others and Volunteer

There are many opportunities to volunteer at the Gonzaga DC Classic. Everyone has talents and if you can spare any time, we will make use of them to make the classic fulfill its purpose... "Great Basketball for Good Works." A brief description of some of the opportunities are below. Whether you are available before the tournament of during the three days, we have a way for you to help. A special thanks to each dad and person that donates their time, past present and future.

To let us know where you can help, you can email Mike Williams at mike.williams@amcorp-cco.com

FUNDRAISING

Identify potential donors, reach out to them and secure donations. Most are recurring donors. Someone with fundraising experience is preferred.

PROGRAM

Collect all data for the program. Work with the publisher to draft, finalize and print the program. Also get posters and tickets printed. Templates and work directories already exist.

HOSTING

These dads are the “ambassadors” of the DC Classic. They interface with their assigned teams to make travel and hotel arrangements, collect team data for inclusion in the program, and serve as guides (if required) for out of town teams (e.g., airport pickups, hotel check-ins, tours). During the games, the hosts ensure the locker rooms are assigned and they handle any emergent issues their assigned team may run into. Also work with the participating school to secure fee payments

(mainly for hotel stays).

WEBCASTERS

No experience necessary! Fulfill your fantasy and do Play-by-Play or Color. We also need dads to work the remote controlled cameras and compile stats.

STATS & SUMMARIES

We post the results of each game on our website. The results include a short game summary and stats (you can get it from the webcasters).

PHOTOGRAPHERS

Pretty simple. Take photos of the games and provide your media to the photo table for immediate upload and display. The kids love to stop at the photo table to see themselves in action.

PHOTO DESK

Receive photo media from the photographers and upload it to the laptop for display on the big screen (all resources provided by Gonzaga). We just need dads to do shifts to sit at the desk and upload the media.

HOTELS

This requires a dad that is either a hotel General Manager or has deep connections with a hotel General Manager. Arranges hotel rooms (at a discounted rate, if possible) for up to 4 visiting teams. Sometimes a “distant” local team may need a night.

TEAM BREAKFAST

Coordinate the delivery of food for the Team Breakfast held on Saturday mornings. Food vendors are usually already selected by the co-chairs. The co-chairs also arrange for the guest speaker. Work with the food vendor to receive food deliveries. Works with the GMC lead for the DC Classic to arrange complimentary foods (muffins, fruit, etc).

FOOD & BEVERAGE

Work a 3 hour shift to serve food/beverages to teams after each game. There are 4 games per day over three days. The Food/Beverage lead (already assigned) coordinates with vendors for delivery or pick up of food. The Food/Beverage also procures the beverages. For the most part, you point at food and drink options and hand the players/coaches what they want (via tongs or gloves).

EAGLE’S NEST

Similar to the Food/Beverage, but this committee serves the VIPs. You just ensure that food/beverages are out and available. No serving is required. This area is for scouts, college coaches, dads working the DC Classic, and other VIPs.

SCORER’S TABLE

You need scorekeeping experience. Tally points, rebounds, fouls, etc in the game books. The stats can be shared with the Stats & Summaries squad for posting onto the DC Classic website.

If your son can sing the National Anthem, we need them! Let us know.

SPONSORS!

We can all help with this. Look at your circle of Gonzaga friends and see if they would be interested in supporting the event! Send them to our website to check it out. If you want to sponsor, please goto the sponsor sign up page for details
