Team Profile

St. Vincent Pallotti High School from Laurel, Maryland returns to the Gonzaga DC Classic for a precedent-setting third consecutive year. The Panthers finished 24-11 last year while playing in the very competitive Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) “A” Conference. Pallotti enjoyed key wins last season against Washington area-ranked opponents such as Riverdale Baptist, Woodrow Wilson, and Bullis. Additionally, they defeated St. Frances from Baltimore who at the time was ranked #17 in the country.

Led by Head Coach Dennis Murphy, the Panthers return a talented team from last year’s squad including 6’6” senior forward Gilbert Otoo (4.5 gpa) who averaged 8.0 points per game and 4 rebounds, and 6’6” senior forward Miles Mallory (National Honor Society) who averaged 7.5 points per game and -5 rebounds a contest. Miles is a tremendous defender with an 80-inch wingspan and was selected as first team all-conference last season on the Pallotti golf team. Super sophomore Edward Johnson is a 6-1 lefty sharp shooter and will compete for minutes after playing on varsity last season as a freshman. Murphy expects contributions from two newcomers, junior forward Christopher Smith (6’8”) and senior guard Efe Gonendir (6’4”). Both will add scoring and depth to the Panther lineup. Isaiah Oshinnaiye, a 6’2” senior, is one of the Panthers best defenders and will bring toughness to the team.

Two starters from last year’s successful junior varsity team, junior Joemel McNair and sophomore Stalin Oaks will add scoring depth to this year’s varsity squad.

Otoo and Mallory have been part of the basketball program for four years while showing steady improvement every season. Both of these young men have interest from several Division I and Division II schools.

“We are excited to participate in our third consecutive Gonzaga DC Classic tournament,” said Coach Murphy. “I am well aware of the prestige and history that goes along with the tournament and our team is honored to be a part of it. The Gonzaga DC Classic gives us a chance to measure our talent against some very good teams.”

Coach Murphy added, “We play a very tough out of conference schedule including games against St. John’s (DC), Georgetown Prep, and we are participating in the Bullis Holiday tournament later this month.
